Discovered by volunteers at a Miami-based animal shelter “A heartbreaking sight” Sunday, Oct. 20, after coming across a wounded bait dog abandoned in a secluded area.
Sunshine Animal Rescue shared a heartbreaking story It has since received 2.3 million likes and over 10 million views on TikTok.
The animal shelter said the bait dog was found in a rock pit where pets are known to be abandoned.
“Our hearts were broken to learn how alive and thriving dog fighting is here in South Florida.” they wrote in the caption.
They explained that they regularly come to the area to check for abandoned animals. In a TikTok post, the animal shelter wrote: “Nothing could have prepared us for the horror we encountered today.”.
“At first we thought he might be another stray dog, but then reality hit us. He had been used for dog fighting and was chewed up from head to toe, his stomach and legs It was torn apart on the inside.”
In the video, the dog can be seen approaching the volunteer’s car and asking for help.
“Despite everything he had been through, this sweet boy immediately came to our car asking for help, trusting and hopeful, even though he had been so abused. , I can’t imagine why he still believes in kindness. The animal shelter wrote:
And even though he was abandoned with all his injuries, the black dog was still wagging his tail and couldn’t have been more gentle.
“His body speaks of pain and cruelty, but what about his mind? It’s so kind and gentle.”

They also said that even though the dog had underlying health conditions, it was very hungry but very happy to see the volunteers.

The animal shelter said volunteers immediately took the dog to Town and Country Animal Hospital for examination and treatment.
“At this time our rescue is small and severely over capacity, but we were not human enough to let this sweet boy go.” the animal rights group said.
Volunteers decided to name him Harsh, but Sunshine Animal Rescue wrote: “We think the name Trooper might be a better final name for this sweet yet tough baby.”
Sunshine Animal Rescue underwent veterinary testing and found that Trooper tested positive for leptospirosis and heartworm. He is also anemic and has hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms.
Additionally, the animal rescue revealed that the dog is currently hospitalized. “His life is now in danger.”
And because of his critical condition, the animal shelter is asking for donations to help him recover and heal.
The animal shelter writes: “The road ahead will be difficult, but with your help we can ensure he receives the care he needs to heal both physically and mentally. .”
