With the help of the kittens, Ernie made a successful recovery from the surgery and returned to his playful and mischievous personality. He started claiming every cardboard box he could find and picked out his favorites for naps.
There was never a moment when Ernie felt alone, and kind people took care of his needs and reassured him that he was loved. There seemed to be a smile on his face.

Persimmon wasn’t the only one who helped. Copper, a tabby dog, seemed to sense that Ernie needed some extra TLC and came over to provide some loving paws.
“She loves other kittens and gives her sweet head bump to everyone she meets. It looks like she’s protecting Ernie here, and even though Copper is smaller than him, he does it… I love you. She gives energy to the mother cat.”

Tommy the cat scooted to the end of the bed on top of the cat tree to make room for Ernie, and Ernie rested his head on it like a pillow.

Now part of the feline office staff, Ernie assists his humans by lying in front of a computer with his feline companions.

Wherever Ernie goes, there are many people by his side. When he finds another cat in his favorite box, he always comes up with a clever solution.
Kes, a gray cat, likes to nap in a snug cardboard box in his office. Sometimes he curls up in Ernie’s box – better described as Ernie’s cuddle trap. Once inside, he watched as Ernie forced his way into the solitary box, turning it into a shared space.

Ernie’s friendly and loving personality rubs off on the other kittens as well. One kitten, Gumdrop, follows Ernie’s example and wraps himself over Ernie, snuggling and purring to suffocate him.
Ernie is thriving and surrounded by loving and caring friends. He couldn’t be happier.
